Built on Faith part 2: Scotts Journey

In this second feature of our employee faith based series at DYNA, we’re highlighting Scott’s story. One shaped by faith and purpose. His journey offers a different perspective on how belief has guided him through life and work.

Can you share a bit about your faith journey and what it has meant to you over the years?

Sure. I was introduced to the Gospel, by my grandfather, when I was 11. I didn’t accept Christ at the time. When I went off to the service, we had Sunday morning chapel call. I didn’t want to sit around with the drill instructors, so I went to church. That’s when the Gospel came alive for me! After my late wife and I got married, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

My faith has taken me through many trials in my life. I know that no matter what I go through, God is always there for me. Whether refining me through trials, or comforting me.

In what ways has your faith shaped the way you support or guide others?

I have taken a different approach to helping others. Instead of seeing others as problems, I see them as the mission field. Everyone is going through some kind of trial. If we ban together, we can help each other through it.

What inspired you to start and lead a Bible study at DYNA, and what impact have you seen from that group?

Nathan Miller’s father, Omer Miller, approached me several years ago. Through a few weeks of talking and praying over it, we started the Bible study group. DYNA’s plan was to meet people where they are, even those we work with, and minister to them.

I have seen changed lives and perspective towards others through this ministry. Just DYNA alone has had an impact on the community where the factory is. Now, with the Bible study, we can reach the employees, which will help them where they live, work, and play.

What is one challenge in life or work that your faith has helped you navigate well?

My faith has helped me most recently with the loss of my wife. Without faith, I would have believed that our God would leave me, he would forsake me. I knew that He would comfort me through this trial. The spiritual guidance that I have had from Scripture is beyond anything I have encountered throughout my life.

How do you see DYNA’s faith-based values making a difference in the company culture day to day?

DYNA has strived to encourage a culture that is like no other. They have given us the ability to express our faith through our interactions with other employees, as well as the customers we serve (servanthood). Our management staff lead with compassion. It is very refreshing to have this kind of environment to come into.

When things get busy or demanding at work, what practices help you stay grounded in your faith?

Whenever I have stress happen, which can happen daily sometimes, I remember a verse in the Bible that relates to it (i.e. Phillipians 4:6-7 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.). Those verses have gotten me through many tough times. It has been a go to when helping others as well.

Is there a piece of scripture that has had a lasting impact on you?

Romans 8:1-4
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you[a] free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh,[b] God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering.[c] And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

If someone remembers one thing from your journey, what would you want it to be?

To know Jesus because of the life I have lived. That I drew on my faith, not my own strength, and let God guide my life
